For more than 28 years, we've been following our ears to original music with an unmistakable sense of place.

Fog City Records is celebrating 28 years as an independent record label, providing emerging artists with a platform for music of substance and encouraging listeners to explore the possibilities outside an increasingly monochromatic pop culture.

We look for the spirit that only comes from human beings playing actual three-dimensional instruments in a live atmosphere, and capture it with classic analog recording gear. Obvious to some, but it bears repeating in this age of over-reliance on samplers and computers. And, we do like making studio owners say, "no one records like this any more!"

We are proud to have recorded and released debut albums for JJ Grey & Mofro, Galactic, Stanton Moore, Garage A Trois, Papa Mali, Tim Bluhm and Robert Walter's 20th Congress among others. Producer/engineer Dan Prothero continues to oversee every aspect of the label, from A&R to recording to mixdown, concept to finished product. His independent productions include JJ Grey & Mofro’s first seven studio albums.
